Noble targeting first team action
Quote:
Ryan Noble is targeting another crack at first-team football before the end of the season after continuing his scoring run.
The 19-year-old has scored nine goals in 10 appearances for the reserves during an injury-interrupted season, netting his latest in last night's 2-0 win over Manchester City.
Noble, who made his Barclays Premier League debut as a substitute at Everton recently, looked sharp up front and won praise from coach Keith Bertschin for his work rate.
Now the youngster, who has bagged nearly 50 goals over the last two seasons, is hoping to get another look from first-team manager Steve Bruce between now and the end of the campaign.
Sunderland's second string have finished their league season but still have Tote Cup action to come.
"I have to keep scoring and hopefully I might get a chance at the next level before the end of the season," Noble said.
"All I can do is keep pushing.
"It's been a bit of a funny season for me; I've been in and out but over the last five or six games I've got a run going and scored a few goals.
"I feel like I'm getting back towards my best now. The fact that I'm scoring goals is a good sign and I want to push on now."
Noble scored Sunderland's second goal during last night's win over City, profiting from unselfish play from Craig Lynch to volley the ball home from 12 yards.
The second string rounded off their league campaign with a fine performance after suffering just one defeat in their last 10 games.
And the striker feels the young team have reaped the rewards of establishing a settled side following the departure of a number of players on loan.
"We battled hard in what was a tough game; the lads showed a lot of desire and commitment which was reflected in the result," Noble said.
"The lads have bonded together and we've had more of a settled team over the back end of the season.
"It's always difficult when you're chopping and changing but recently we've kept the current group of players together and that has paid dividends."

Canny record that like. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the squad on Saturday if Frazier isn't fit. Do his confidence a lot of favours to get some first team action.

Not seen him for the youth side or the ressies, but when I've seen him play for England he does have that little bit extra. It's a pity he's so small though, even looks like a kid when he's playing in his own age group. Until he's bulked up a tad I can't see him getting much of a chance.
