PC problem

I am not very techy so any help would be very much appreciated.
PC is a compaq.
OS is windows vista.

I went to switch my PC on this morning, pushed the button, nothing.
Thought i had not pushed it right so did it again, nothing.
Checked the house electric supply, all was good.
Then i noticed the extension lead supplying the pc, printer, keyboard etc was switched of (missus ! ).
I switched this on and the pc started making a beeping silence beeping sound continuously. Screen did not boot up and said no signal.
Switched the extension lead off and then back on. This time no beeping but again the screen did not boot up.
Switched the pc off and back on. This time the screen did boot up and i pressed F11 to recuperate the system. The screen froze on the opening boot screen and there was no response from the keyboard.
The problem seems to be that the PC is not seeing the screen or the keyboard.
Any ideas of what to do please ?
