    Default Dog help

A few months ago we bought a large, light coloured rug for the living room, but the last couple of nights the dog has wandered in and shit and pissed all over it.

We'd had the previous rug in for years without a problem and this new one has been in at least two months but she's only just started doing this now. Is there any particular reason for this behaviour or a way to stop it?

I've tried everything I can to stop it, extra walks for the dog, plenty of time in the garden directly before bed time, giving her none of our food if there is any leftovers, but nothing has seemed to work yet.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Shut the door to the living room. It's not that the dog needs a piss necessarily, it might just be a nice smelling rug.

the dog might think that the rug does not go with the room decor

The living room/downstairs is kind of open plan so there is no way of shutting the dog out as such. The only alternative would be shutting the dog in a room upstairs but I wasn't keen on locking her in anywhere tbh.

So you reckon the smell of the rug may be causing her to do it?

Definitely - it may be that she thinks the rug is the most suitable place to use indoors.

    This.

Its probably an infection of some kind and the dog chose the rug as the most appropriate place to do its deed.
