Where was / is The Locarno?
I just did a search on Spotify to see what the hell comes up if you type in Sunderland.
Top 3 results were live tracks by Free recorded at The Locarno in Sunderland from 1970. Now, I'm nee spring chicken myself .. but I'll be buggered if I can recall where The Locarno was, or what it might be now! Any other (slightly more) oldies out there that could help? |

The Mayfair / Gens / Palace Nightclubs.
Where the old bowling alley is on Newcastle Road.

cheers lads, I remember seeing New Order there but I'm sure it was Gen's at the time.
At the time of the Free recordings, it seems we had a jumping live music scene, what with this Locarno gaff and the Bay Hotel having the likes of The Who & T Rex on. Shame we couldn't say the same now  |

I was there that night the place was absolutely rammed, the atmosphere electric and it was one of the great gigs of my life.
