Re: Women's insurance discounts - sex discrimination ?
Not read the previous 11 pages but thought I'd dive straight in.
There was an article out a while back that said the number of claims for a 17-21 year olds is the same for both male and female. The difference is that men are more likely to have the more serious (and hence more costly) accidents and claims. As such it's fair for them to have the higher permiums but not the extent in place at the moment.
IMO there's two problems. The first is that the test isn't relevant anymore. Time should be spent on motorways and a skidpan. There should also be a "cooling" period between someone passing their tests and having freedom to drive anywhere.
The second isn't so much the difference between male and female premiums but the overall level of premiums in general and punishment for those found driving uninsured.

Re: Women's insurance discounts - sex discrimination ?
I have 2 years no claims and I wouldnt say I drive like a twat. I pay more than a girl I know who is now in her second year of driving, who in her first year had 6, yes 6 accidents.
Re: Women's insurance discounts - sex discrimination ?
Correct ruling IMO and I wonder if it will leave scope for compensation. I always wondered following the logic of insurance discrimination why women dont pay more NI contributions due to retiring earlier and living longer.

Can you explain how that works then ? My experiance is that the the number of men having children is exactly the same as women. Or have women starting asexual budding up your way ?

Insurance is based on risk not gender discrimination. It is a ridiculous ruling, because it will raise women's premiums, unlikely lower men's. And I'm not posting that just because I'm female.
Most young people look forward to being 25 to get a more reasonable premium. Most people try to get/keep a no claims bonus. Many drive less powerful cars to get cheaper insurance. If there becomes a "set" premium for driving a car, people will get more powerful cars. They won't bother fixing (paying for minor accident damage) the car themselves to save the NCB. You won't get cheaper insurance at age 25.
