Default What Does It Take To Be A Popular Player For SAFC?

A youth product who gets rave reviews from just about every manager in the country and our first home grown England cap for years?

A keeper who has produced countless top-quality saves behind a frequently changing back four?

A failed right back who's turned out to be alright at left back, but knows how to "put a challenge in"?

An international striker with an attitude of just wanting to play football with a smile on his face and have a little dance?

Just wondered like. Not having a go at any players, but this fickleness and inability of some fans to just get behind some players just staggers sometimes.

In a perfect world, what would you want from a player for SAFC if they were to be the most popular player on Wearside?

100% commitment to the shirt is all I care about.

Darren bent had all the goals and fucked off. I don't care about him, I just support the lads who pull the shirt on every week and I expect the same of them towards the fans.

    Its embarrasing really.

considering some of the dross weve been brought up with, this is the most skillfull SAFC team in decades.

We really do need to get behind the players and show a bit of understanding. Fans and team need to be as one

Someone who'd run through brick walls for the cause.

Someone who isn't up their own arse and has time for the fans, and knows what it means to them.

Someone who puts loyalty before their own financial gain.

    - A dying breed in modern football?

SAFC supporters of long-standing prefer average-to-middling players who cover their technical deficiencies with a willingness to run through walls and clog owt that moves. I'll not mention names as some of the players are still alive - a couple are still at the club )

They can't be on with these fancy dan players who can actually play football ("dribbling's for puffs man") or occasionally try something unconvential ("an overheed kick?! whee does 'e think 'e is - a bloody circus act?") - see Claudio Marangoni - played balls to where he expected other competent players to be - not standing back admiring their 'one' of the 'one/two' - got slaughtered but somehow managed to be South American player of the year TWICE after he got chased from SAFC.

They also don't like many who cost a lot. Due to some perversion in their makeup they equate what someone is prepared to pay for them to be the players fault.

And all young lads who come through the Academy are great until they get into the 1st team.
