Default Are Mensah and Bramble as good as we think?

I've been thinking that tonight. After all, Stoke scored three times from balls swung over into the 6 yard box. That should be a test of the centre halves - and they failed today.

So - have we been fooling ourselves a bit (myself included) about how much Bramble is 'the signing of the season', and Mensah is 'the rock'?

They're very good on the deck - but are they as good in the air?

Two Nemanja Vidic would struggle not to concede against a team like Stoke when they get 50 balls into the box like today...

Problem with Stoke is that they've so many big bastards...think Mensah was on Jones most of today and he kept him quiet...but at set plays there're another half a dozen.

And we didn't have any big strikers out there who could help out with the likes of Huth..strange, we actually miss Jones more in defense than attack.

No, they've had a bad game so they must be fucking shite. Get shot of them. You'd never see Gary Breen playing like that.

I don't think Bramble is as good as some make out, but we were always going to struggle against that. Carew is the best target man in the league and something Carroll should aspire to. Jones played badly but he's still big in the air, and then when you add in their centre backs, it is the land of the giants.

Every throw in in our half is pretty much a freekick with 4 monsters in there. We successfully dealt with about 90% of them, but they had so many that they scored 3, with help from the officials.

Exacly. If any players were at fault it was our full-backs/ midfielders not helping out. They should have been allowed to get so many balls into the box and the niggling fouls put us in needless danger.
