Was thinking I knaa a canny few of these like, which is odd given the geography (setting all prejudices aside). So what's the story?

Does it go back to the General Strike or something I heard about Northumberland mine-owners being more benevolent towards the men or summat?

Does anyone have any family stories?

The club arranged benefit matches during the strikes, their nearest club refused.

Quite a few in Ashington as far as I know due to miners from Durham going to work in local colleries resulting in some in Blyth as well.

I'm from Amble originally and a few there and also a few in Seahouses mainly due I think to local fishermen regularly docking in Sunderland

ps don't quote me on this only what I've heard

I used to run a pub up in Morpeth, The only Vaux pub in town. So needless to say it was a bit of a haven for the Red n Whites.

I think there's so many SAFC supporters up that region because, or so I was told, that during the Great Strike, SAFC laid on FREE buses for the men to go to the matches, this obviously must of rubbed off onto SNQ with his taxis exploit... The Mags, as usual, done sweet FA to help the miners

A lot of colliery workers would move to new areas where new pits had been sunken.
