Bent release clause?
Daily Mail claims there was a £15m release clause in his contract.
Anyone know about this and, if so, how come they offered above that figure? Sorry if SEB.

Yeah it's true, Villa didn't know about it though, that's why we pushed the deal through so quickly....

Yeah. We'd have definetly arranged a minimum release clause thats less than what we would have paid in total. Nice one Daily Mail

don't know if it's true or not in bent's case but the release clause can be drafted to give the player a right to talk to club if an offer comes in over £x, but doesn't oblige the club to accept that offer if the player is worth more...

So not only did Villa give us £3m out of the goodness of their hearts with a promise of a potential £6m more, Darren Bent, the man who has been exposed for all the world to see as little more than a money-grabbing selfish bullshiiter, decided that he didn't really want the 7-figure loyalty bonus he'd have been due, too?
