Striker Darren Bent has joined Aston Villa after the Midlands club lodged a bid for the player, who submitted a written transfer request on Sunday following the Wear-Tyne derby at the Stadium of Light.
The forward joined Sunderland for £10m in summer 2009 and netted 36 goals in 63 appearances for the club, including 11 this season.
Bent, an England international, has also played for Charlton and Spurs since beginning his career as a trainee at Ipswich Town.
