    Lots of great films mentioned but haven't seen Heroes of Telemark.

    I also like films about the Home Front such as Millions Like Us and Mrs Miniver

    I have jost got Hold of Stalingrad (another German film from 1993 - hoping its a belter)

    The Sands of Iwo Jima is also a cracker - its "twinned" with Flags of our fathers, so is worth watching both

    Flags of our Fathers is Ok but Sands of Iwo Jima is brilliant.

    I aree I watched Sands first and Flags was ok but worth watching just to get the counter view. I beleive that they were both by Clint eastwood and meant to be watched in that order

    Another good recent one is Enemy at the Gate

    And for those interested in the Polish-Russian shenanigans then I reccomend "Katyn" - again watch in original language with subtitles

    Oh another one I really like is Empire of the Sun with a young Christian Bale

    It is indeed a belter.

    I'm susprised that Saving Private Ryan hasn't been mentioned yet - cinematically brilliant.

    I have 2 films that I keep meamning to watch but always remeber when I am in public places like aeroplanes

    They are: The Pianist and Boy in striped pyjamas - I fear I may be in bits watching them

    Another I only got se a bit of was Il Postino - is it worth watching again?

    The Pianist is bleak but superb - I've not seen the other two...

    Does Casablanca count as a WW2 film BTW? If so, it goes on the list.
