Aside from the fact that Man U had about a half a dozen players in or around the Man U box.

Sorry like but Gomes was absolutely to blame there. I don't particularly like Clattenburg but the stick he'll get for this will be way OTT.

It's hard to believe that a blatant handball occurs after a collision in which the ref indicates the player dived which should in all probabilities result in a yellow card and then he allows play to go on and the goal to stand. Partridge is right that once he made the decision for play to go on then the goal stands and Gomes is wrong to presume a free kick has been given but the howler was not to stop play in the first place. therefore i still insist thst clattenburg had a mare!!

I got the impression the linesman had given offside bizarrley...he had his flag straight up in the air, not waving around for a free-kick etc. etc.

then when the ref went to ask "was anyone offside or have you just paniced cos you weren't watching", the answer was "goal given!!".

ref spot on in my eyes..... he even seems to warn Gomes by saying "what the fuck you doing" when he bools the ball out.........

    Goalkeeper error.

Gomes had the ball in his hands. Surely at that point playing the advantage is fair? if he';d walloped it up the pitch to Crouch who scored the equaliser should he have pulled the play back for a free kick to Spurs?? course not. advantage played as soon as gomes had the ball in his mits.

The fact that Gomes randomly throws the ball to the centre forward is gk error, not ref error surely?

But he played the advantage so the ball was live

I'm not going to defend Gomes, as has already been said he should be playing to the whistle, but the confusion only came around as a result of dreadful refereeing.
Clattenburg will get the stick he deserves for just allowing a player to dive, and then handle the ball with no punishment. The fact his mistakes all but ended the game was unfortunate for him, but any stick he gets is from his own doing.

why would he give a free-kick when the lads got the ball in his hands?

8 mins to go. getting beat one nil. if he'd threw the ball out quickly to a spurs player for an attack, and the ref had pulled him back he would have been slated......."where;s the advantage rule" would be the call surely?

well he played the advantage......gomes fucked it.

Firstly, to book Nani for at least one of his two bookable offences.
Secondly, if that is the reasoning for playing the advantage, then there could easily be a case made for playing it after literally every foul. "Come on ref, we could've hoofed it forward and scored!" Where does the line get drawn between that and what happened tonight?
Spurs were in their own box and an opposition player had just commited two bookable offences - Simple case of whistle, card, and free kick, but Clattenburg fucked it.

I dont think he played advantage - if he did then he should have brought play back for the original hand ball as it was hardly an advantage to concede the goal. I think he just played on from the original incident. Waddle's whinging on was really amusing and total garbage too like !!

    clattenburg played ADVANTAGE.

    Spurs gained no ADVANTAGE.

he did play advantage coz he made the appropriate arm signal for advantage.
