How did he get away?
He was born and raised in germany and has played U21 for them.
It says more for Germany's player development than anything else.
In the past 2 years or so we've seen Ozil, khedira, ( both at Real madrid now IIRC) muller all come onto the scene.
We are still labouring with has beens and wannabes and picking 33 yo's for their first cap.
The comparison with barnes is spurious to say the least, given where barnes was raised.

I would have thought that in this day and age, with the technology available, the FA would have a database of every professional player in the world who was eligible to play for England.

Various articles don't actually say whether he "got away" or maybe has been watched and discarded.

Capello is not the type to have dismantled the entire structure and started again after the debacle of the WC, which is what is needed.

As I've said before, England should be concentrating on a squad for WC 2014; get the young lads together, lose a few meaningless friendlies (so what?) and have them up to speed by the time the REAL business comes round.

That would require a sea-change in both the FA and EPL which, due to the conflicting and vested interests of both parties, is never likely to happen.

Therefore, accept the mediocrity that follows

I cant see it myself but in my advancing years maybe I'm a technological caveman.

Somebody somewhere must keep track of these things.
