4 weeks today and counting but..............
how confident are you of victory given our record there since 1990 ?
91-92 - scum were struggling badly, we were in the SF of FA Cup the week after and put in one of the WORST ever performances at SJP of all time to lose 1-0 to Kelly.
92-93 - the rain game - scum were on crest of a wave - Terry B was looking as if he was taking us down. Put in gutsy performance but lose to a Sellars free kick
96-97 - scum near to their peak but a superb battling performance and profligate finishing by Ferdinand saw us get a point in the fan ban game.
99-00 - SKP's magnificent chip in the rain gave us a 2-1 win in an SJP undergoing extension
00-01 - brilliant SNQ header earned another 2-1 win in a pulsating game full of chances and incident
01-02 - the seeds of discontent were being sown already in the camp and we got away with the luckiest point ever in a 1-1 robbery job. Solano missed chances galore.
02-03 - the most inept, spineless and cowardly performance ever given by a Sunderland side at SJP imo. No fight, no spirit - nothing as Bellamy and weetabix heed killed us off before half time.
05-06 - can't think of many games where I felt more gutted by a result. Played so well with a limited team - 2 great goals but Ameoba punished woeful defending by ex mag Caldwell. Should have finished them off in 15 min spell after half time but didnt and Emre's free kick was a pearler. Lost 3-2.
07-08 - another terrible perfromance - knew we'd lost before game kicked off with Bardsley and Evans ruled out injured and heedless chicken chosen to play. Reid played in the hole behind KJ - wtf was that all about ? Lost 2-0 - Michael Owen game and the alleged conga round the boardroom by FMA infront of the Sunderland directors - classy boy ?
08-09 - good, battling performance under Ricky - deservedly winning until cheating Taylor took a dive. Also the infamous Chopra bottle job. 1-1 draw.
So we have lost 50% of the last 10 games there, winning 2 and drawing 3.
The teams look so evenly matched that it is going to be a close one to call imo, but if the same Sunderland turn up that have turned up the last 3 games, a point should be the least we get.

current form and teams means little in these games, we have brought them down to our level in the past and they will no doubt bring us down to there level this time. Will be a tough game.

1908 we won 9-1. A repeat is on the cards.

A good read that, cheers.
The cracks are just starting to appear up there following two poor home performances, the Stoke 2nd half being particularly clueless. I fancy us to win and win well.

Agreed, they were shite against Stoke and any repeat of that will mean we will turn them over easily.

Very confident cos they could be on the slide and hopefully we are on the move up. Gyan will be up and running by then and without any injuries we'll outclass them in every position.

I`m never confident with games against them.
Would take 2 points from them fixtures now.
The fear of losing is practically on a par with the thought of delight at winning

Re: 4 weeks today and counting but..............
This is the game that Jordan Henderson will score the winner in!
If SB can't get The Lads up for this one, then there's no hope.
If we maintain our current form/committment, I'd like to think we could just shade it.
But, as another poster said, the winning/losing just about balance each other out.
Not a game I ever enjoy watching (except for very few occasions).

Re: 4 weeks today and counting but..............
I hate the game, but I love the fact I hate it since there is so much to gain from a win. This is the first time in years we can argue we have the better team on paper and look like going into the game and getting a win.
