    Default Car recommendations...

I'm looking for something second hand, up to 3 Grand. I'm a total car novice so can anyone point me in the direction of a good make/what to avoid etc.?

Should I buy private or from a garage?

    Thanks in advance.

You need to be more specific.
Saloon/Estate, do you do many miles?, have you a family/dog to cart around?

Garage will be more expensive as they have more overheads such as a warranty to supply.

What do like the look of?
How old are you? Recommending a 300bhp car if you are 17 might not be a good idea.

Get yourself a 406 Hdi marra. I'm not that good with cars either but got a few mates who are mechanics and they swear by them. Parts are dirt cheap as well as there are a couple of Peugeot breakers in the area. I know of one in Felling and one in Craghead if you live down Durham way. They are reliable as fuck.

Don't do many miles, just work and back really. Sometimes take the bairn out in it, but that's it.

I'm 40 and a bloke. Been looking at a Citroen Saxo up the street that's for sale. Also looking at a Corsa and a Yaris at Harbour View Garage.
