All Inclusive Holidays
How do you look upon these things?
For me, it's convenient as the little Raven is constantly back and forwards for ice cream, pop, etc. And if you don't fancy whats on in the restaurant you can go and eat outside, which i like to do anyway to see some of the place.
However, i think it also brings out the worst in some people. Was in Menorca last week and i saw some fairly horrible sights.
First, a young lass couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old with a massive plate of chips every meal that i saw her which she took back to her family of beached whales who were eating? Yep, A massive plate of chips each.
Second, a fuppin huge lass standing in front of me waiting for some ice cream. Her dad (assumed) pipes up;
How, sharon d'ya want a bit cake?
Heffa: Aye but just 3.
Third, The look of horror on this blokes face when i told him that we were off out to try a restaurant up the road. But you're all inclusive he says. Yes, but it doesn't mean the armband sets off an alarm when you leave i says, it's nice to get out and about. He stood looking at me for a bit then said something like 'each to their own' as if i was round the bend.
What does all inclusive mean to the SMB? Am i missing something?

It has never appealed to me, I prefer to try different places to eat/drink and would end up feeling tied to a hotel. I usually try to never eat/drink in my hotel.

ive been on a few AI's in Turkey Menorca Mexico & Tenerife
Never has the old adage you get what you pay for been more apt
If you pay 300 quid for 2 weeks AI you know its going to be pretty shite
We always go 5* & ensure the hotel has more than one restaurant (ala cartes) so you can vary your meals away from the main buffet. Always check its 24 AI as well some places the bar & food stops at 11pm ish anything after this you have to pay for. Also kids entertainment, mini disco (deal breaker for us ) water slides etc etc all included
Weve just booked another for next June in Turkey 6 of us gannin and with kids its a no brainer imo

Re: All Inclusive Holidays
Just come back from Ibiza. This was the first time I've done AI and it saved me a bloody fortune in pop, ice creams, drinks etc for the kids. Entertainment laid on each evening but chose to eat out on occasion as well. Never saw anything like the people Mr Raven met although there was a family of gross fat mags who had a different footy top for each day.

Re: All Inclusive Holidays
I went to Majorca last month all inc for a week for the first time and I’d defo go back. Its just so convenient when you have kids and it means there is no mad panic to try and get everyone down for breakfast cos if you miss it you can still get something decent later.
We had a couple of walks and drinks at places outside the hotel, but the place I stayed at was part of a complex of 3 hotels so you weren’t tied to just the one you were staying in for food etc.
Its not good for the old waistline though and it would be entirely possible to drown yourself in beer if you so wished.

Re: All Inclusive Holidays
Wouldn't want to do it in Europe - there's a load of places to try outside of the hotel & the hotels aren't a patch on the "resorts" in faraway places that were made to be AI (i.e. have 4-5 proper a la cartes onsite).

I thought it had to be two shirts, the away top when going on holiday and home top when travelling home.

Wish it was that cheap!!
I also think that Spain doesn't really get the AI thing at all. Mexico was outstanding, Egypt was pretty good as well.

Re: All Inclusive Holidays
Not for me but I don't have bairns. I think if I did go on one I would still try and get out to a restaurant every now and again.
My only experience of AI was when I was stopping in Spain with a lass who was a holiday rep for Thomsons. When she was at work, I used to dodge into a Thomsons AI hotel and have some bait and use the pool.
Nobody ever questioned me but in my defence, I was generally with her mates who were reps and I don't think they were meant to be there either.
