Late night shopping will be available in Eldon Square after traders voted for longer opening hours Monday to Saturday.

From October 25th, stores in the shopping centre will stay open until 8pm on Monday to Friday and 7pm on Saturday. Sunday trading hours will remain the same from 11am to 5pm.

More than 90 per cent of traders in the shopping centre voted yes to the proposal to extend hours.

The extension is part of a campaign by business improvement company NE1 Ltd that aims to keep the city ‘Alive after Five’.

Newcastle City Council’s deputy leader, Cllr David Faulkner welcomed the move.

He said: “Newcastle is well known for its great shops and retail is vital to our city’s economic fortunes – therefore I’m delighted that businesses in Eldon Square have voted overwhelmingly in favour of longer hours.

“I am sure this move will transform the city’s early evening economy and make us an even more popular location for tourists and shoppers.”

Because it has far superior retail outlets, and a nicer overall clientele. Sunderland city centre is full of charvers and tramps.

I find Sunderland has all a city can offer (apart from bookable tennis courts). I find the clothes shops superior for the clothes that I buy. If ya want to dress like MC Hammer then maybe newcastle is better.

By the way Daddyo is sitting next to me and says fuck off ya boring cnut.

Not every one that posts on here lives in Sunderlang ya knar. Apart from the Bridges, what else does Sunderland offer the shoppers that do not live in Sunderland? Before someone pipes up, yes I know Consett has fuck all, thats why people in fucked up market towns have to go to the big city.
