From Simon Bird. Not sure how reliable and ITK he is but here is a tweet in reply to me asking about Carrick..

" Yes true they (sunderland) want him. Wether eventually comes off depends on player and fergie's dealings. Could be offered captaincy. "

I got the impression from the way Bruce answered the question about Carrick that we might actually be interested but unless Man Utd sign another midfielder, possibly Defour?, then it's not going to happen.

    I reckon that too.

He was quick to label it as " rubbish " and shrugged his head so they moved onto another question, maybe he's just being quiet about it, I'd love it to go through..

Would be a fantastic signing if it were to come off, would do wonders for our passing game.

Wonder what some on here would be like (if it happened) that not only would our manager be a geordie, but so would our captain.

I'm sure we would want him. As would almost every team in the Premier League. Doesn't mean we have a fucking hope in hell of getting him though.

They've never played for Newcastle and they've never made bad comments about Sunderland, so I don't care if they are geordies or not.

Perhaps the pre-eminent north east footballing son of his generation signing to captain Sunderland upon returning home from England's world cup campaign, whilst still in his 20s, and from the most prestigious club in the country.

Sounds like a cracking fairy tale. Fuck all chance of it happening, though.
