England/Sunderland
Haway then, world cup or Premier league?
I'd sooner see Sunderland win a game of tiddly winks than see England win the world cup, the national team is of no importnace to me

Re: England/Sunderland
as as concept, through many aspects of life
i much prefer the idea of regions to that of national boundaries.
food is a good example, in france, italy, spain etc the distinction between cheeses, meats, wines from different regions is far more proudly protected than here and i think that is so important. National boundaries are just a political invention designed to keep people apart, whereas regions are physical areas populated by particular tribes of people with particular characteristics (this has changed over time with population migration)
