Very true and I'm pleased that you're pleased that you made the right choice for you and passed up on the idea.
There are some hideous examples on display these days, that's for sure and getting a fashionable tattoo is always a bad idea. Times are changing and it although it is becoming more socially acceptable, a shit tattoo will always be a shit tattoo.
For me though, all of mine represent what's important to me. I can't describe why I'd possibly think it's a good idea to represent my life in imagery on my skin, but I does and I'm comfortable with it and that's all that counts. Maybe I'll regret it when I'm 50 and there are currently instances where I have to cover my arms as it just doesn't feel appropriate to be sat with two full sleeves on display but then I knew that when I decided to get them.
Each to their own I say, if you don't like them fine, bash on and leave us with ink in peace, watching Jeremy Kyle whilst drinking warm cans of fosters before signing on as we can't get a job.....or the anti-ink brigade would have you think!!

I have a tattoo, and intend on getting more, i'm aware i may look daft in years to come, but i made that choice to get the needle, so i'll live with that if i regret it!

I understand what you're saying marra. I was just responding to the lad who was more or less saying you're behind the times if you don't like them, which personally I believe is a load of rubbish.

Wasnt an attack on you personally pal. But these threads always end up with the anti-ink brigade jumping on, when at the end of the day, it's down to individual choice!

Exactly what I was going to say. But I don't have two full sleeves.

Fair do's, but in this case the OP said he is only thinking about getting one, therefore I feel I have every right to wade in and share my view, i.e. I'm pleased I never got one when I was younger and thought it'd be a good idea.

And Thewper1 has it right, my tattoo, and the rest i will get will be easily coverable if the situation needs them to be, i do cringe when i see the initials behind ears etc on display these days, as they're impossible to hide.
I have seen Thewper1's sleeves and body work and must say it is cracking work. And although i doubt i will ever go to that extreme (he has a lot more money to afford it than me! ) i do hoep to go a little way towards his coverage over time!

Was supposed to have Metallica's Damage Inc logo on my shoulder when I was 20 but my parents nagged me out of it. Now I am four stones heavier, a middle aged dad and think Metallica are tossers, it was the right decision. Don't have one unless you think it will look cool when you are 75.

Re: Post A Picture Of Your Tattoo
I think it depends on the quality of the work. I've got a cheap tribal on my left arm whic I got when I was 20-odd, not great work but I still quite like it. The one I'm getting now I've been after for nigh on 10 years.
And I fucking love getting tattooed, I think it brings out the masochist in me.

Or don't get something that ultimately means nothing to you. The idea of logos etc doesn't appeal to me but something that represents an important person or event in my life is much less likely to be regretable.
I don't like the tattoo I have (typical tribal) as much as I did when I got it done but as yet I don't regret it. I've also finally decided what I want my next one to be and I'm certain I won't regret that one in years to come (unless the tattoo artist does a crap job).

So what does some tribal design say other than "this was fashionable in 2010"? Any tattoo done now will look bad in 30 years time as the aesthetics and crafstmanship will have moved on. Just look at anyone who had a tattoo in the 1970s or 80s.
Getting your wife's name tattooed on your arse is risky business too. Explain that to a future girlfriend if - heaven-forfend - you get divorced.
I am not against tattoos per se, just the permanence of them. Surely it is not beyond the realms of science to design an ink that can be safely and quickly removed using a certain wavelength of light?
