Loan ranger: Nyron Nosworthy spent the latter part of last season on loan at Sheffield United
Nyron Nosworthy has been given permission by Steve Bruce to join Sheffield United in a cut-price deal.
Sunderland manager Bruce is demanding just £500,000 for Nosworthy, who spent the final three months of the season on loan at Bramall Lane.
Kevin Blackwell was resigned to the deal falling through after Sunderland initially asked for £1m. Bruce is looking to bring in three new defenders this summer.
Meanwhile Burnley look ready to beat Derby County in the race to sign the Black Cats' striker Billy Sharp.
Burnley are closing in on a £1.5m deal for Sharp, 24, who scored 15 goals on loan at Doncaster last season. Sharp played for Burnley boss Brian Laws when he was in charge at Scunthorpe.
Cardiff though have rejected Burnley's £1.7m bid for Peter Whittingham.
