Default When did the St George Cross replace the Union Flag at England games?

If you look at colour footage of '66, Union Flags (or Union the Jack as it was in old money) everywhere. You'd do very well to spot a single 'English' flag in Wembley that day.

20 years on Mexico '86 was the same although we'd just been at war which may or may not have been significant. I was watching Itlia 90 highlights the other day and again a minimum of a 50 50 split I'd say, but there was definitely a movement towards St George.

Nowadays you'd probably get lynched if you took the Union Flag to a world cup. Why is this and when the big identity change over?

It's always been the union flag. It's only the Jack if it is on a ship.

Why the fuck should we represent Britain when the scots and welsh quite happily use their own flags.

It's a fair point, but why did it take us until 1998 for this to dawn on us?

That's around when the Scots and the Welsh pushed their "we're not british" thing?
