Sunderland fans are warned about imposters posing as first team players on social networking sites.

however none of Sunderland's first team squad have social network accounts and the club has no plans to introduce them.
Does that mean the David Meyler facebook account that got so much attention on here was by another imposter?

to be honest, i would imagine some of them do have genuine facebook accounts- after all, many of the young lads will be away from friends/ family etc and it is an easy way of keeping in touch with them (and an easy way of getting a bit minge like). The only thing is that probably neither they nor the club will particularly want fans joining up and "talking" to the them, hence saying that none of them have accounts

    This is the key line

The club has stressed that no first team players have any official player profile pages on any social networking sites.
IF it is the player, it is not officially sanctioned by the club.
