Six or seven players needed...
... if we're gonna really give us the chance to take the next step;
Let's play with the three keepers and two for each other position formula...
GK: Gordon, Carson, **NEW**
RB: **NEW**, Ferdinand
LB: Richardson, **NEW**
CB: Turner, Da Silva
CB: **NEW**, Kilgallon
RW: Henderson, Campbell
LW: Malbranque, **NEW**
CM: Cana, Colback
CM: Cattermole, **NEW**
FW: Bent, **NEW**
FW: Jones, Waghorn
Might be pushing it having Campbell as a RW, but as I see it we don't bring in a top RW'er who'll put Jordan on the bench - so let Fraizer come in for him should there be an injury. McCartney, Healy, Bardsley, O'Donovan, Nosworthy, Tainio, Fülöp, Murphy and even though I like him - should we really buy those seven players - also Reid (doubts if he'll get back to this best physical form next season). BTW, I don't think Zenden is good enough for that 'next step'.
We probably won't buy seven good players in all those positions, but if we did we'd have a very, very interesting squad. We already have the nucleus for a good squad, but there's still important work to be done on it.
Any thoughts?

Bit harsh on Reid, he will be back to his best physical shape I'm sure and before he got injured he was one of our best players.

Campbell can act as back up for both RW and ST
Richardson can act as back up for LW, CM and LB
Ferdinand could be back up for both RB and CB
You missed Meyler off your list....
Not sure what my point is Actually I do know... I'm trying to say that if Bruce only signs 4 players as he states, as long as these 4 players are high quality and walk into the first team, then we will be in a good position to push on.

Exactly how I see it mate. Reid did well early part of last season but I'd prefer a winger who'll scare defenders shitles with pace, and be a threat off either foot. (Adam Johnson you were the one )
May need a new striker if Leicester go up, as we can loan them Waggy to see how he does in the Prem.

Re: Six or seven players needed...
how can you want to buy 7 players and none of them are a left back
for me it looks good like this
GK: Gordon, Carson, **NEW**
RB: **Hutton**, Ferdinand
LB: **Figueroa**, Richardson
CB: Turner, Da Silva
CB: **Mensah**, Kilgallon
RW: Henderson, Campbell
LW: Malbranque, Reid
CM: Cana, Meyler, Colback
CM: Cattermole, **Riveros**
FW: Bent, Campbell
FW: Jones, Waghorn
its a shame though, as id like to see us mantain our more british side but it doesnt look like theres many or even any coming in

Having an off-day?
LB: **NEW** would indicate I'd like a LB
I agree with the one saying that we have a few players who can cover many positions (Campbell, Richardson, Henderson), but I forgot to mention we could only play with one player at one position (my game, my rules . Two for each position thingie.
Also, as I said I quite like Andy Reid - but I'm just not entirely convinced he can be a regular performer for a team trying to break up - forgive me for sounding Sky'ish - the 'Top8'. We'll see, if he stays. A fully, fully, 100% motivated and slimmed down Andy Reid could probably be that performer - I have doubts though if he's got the discipline and will power, and can avoid injuries. He feels a tad, just a tad - made of glass.

Re: Six or seven players needed...
none of the midfield scores goals...what if Bent doesn't do as well...
think this needs attention...as well as the obvious defenders..

Hopefully Jordan and Riveros (if he comes) can chip in with four or five each... if Steed can break his duck then perhaps a pair from him. Of course our own Scholesy, Colback, is gonna go double figures
