An American tourist in Sunderland - What to do?
I'll be spending a bit of time in and around Sunderland and am looking for some local advice. I'll be there next Saturday for the SAFC v Man U match - but other than that, have absolutely nothing scheduled.
I'll be honest, I'm not a big art or museum person. A perfect day to me is seeing a few sites, but mostly meeting good people that enjoy a good pint(s) and are willing to share some conversation and laughs with a foreigner while letting me in on a bit of the local culture.
So, what would you recommend I do, see, or experience in and around Sunderland that is distinct to the area and would make me come back to the states telling everyone how great my visit to Sunderland was? Anything specific on match day? Anything specific to next week / weekend?

Leave your big happy flappy pointy finger foam hands back at home.
And when we score you will not hear an organ
