There'll be people out there with more expertise on this than me.
I've got a cheap 'minipod' from Jessops, just for tabletop use.
A Joby Gorillapod -
And a cheap Giottos tripod.
Get the sturdiest you can afford, there's no point having a tripod if it wobbles in the breeze.
The problem is people want a light, sturdy, cheap tripod - out of those 3 attributes you can only have two.
Light, strong = expensive
Light, cheap = weak
Sturdy, cheap = heavy
In other words you get what you pay for.
People seem to recommend Manfrottos tripods and recently I've been hearing redsnapper mentioned a lot too.
