Plan already in action, hoping to upgrade to a D90 soon and get my D70 converted.

I'd expect it to be fairly long as DSLRs pass very little IR on account of the IR-blocker filter. I reckon that garden shot was done with a modified camera.

I think it's because the IR blocker isn't 100% efficient. I'll see if I can lay my hands on a transmission graph.

PS, this was shot with a 742nm IR-pass filter and Imaging Source webcam, if that counts.

Love some of your astro photography Smoker - what telescope do you use?

    Cheers mate.

It varies, the above shot was taken with a Celestron C11 (11" Schmidt Cassegrain) though I have recently settled on a William Optics Megrez 90 refractor.

There are more fancy scopes out there, but for the money it's a real corker.

I also do a bit of work with DSLR lenses - ie Zenitar 16mm fisheye, Leitz Telyt 180mm/f3.4 apo and Takumars.

Been looking into getting that IR conversion done. About £200 to have the IR filter removed and while they're on they move the sensor to allow for the different focus point, clean test and calibrate the camera too.

D90 is a higher prority for now though.

Seems more or less the going rate mate. Andy from Astronomiser.co.uk charges £150 for the filter-out mod, but that doesn't involve moving the sensor and the other stuff.
