    Default Bone Marrow Transplants

My cousin's little lad, Seth had a bone marrow transplant yetserday. He's 3.

With a bit of luck it'll do what many weeks of chemo failed to do, and get rid of the leukemia.

He's now in isolation for 60 days.

Amazingly they ony used 25mg of the donor marrow.

They found a 90%+ match in Italy but couldn't use it as it had been exposed to hepatitis, so they used an 80% match they found in Germany - they got it from an umbilical cord.

If you're under 40, please get yourself on the donor list. You could save a life.

Hope he gets better soon from it - bless him!

I donated all my childrens cord blood and stuff and it's good to hear what miracles they can do with it.

I used to donate blood till they decided they don't want English any more.

AB I'm on the marrow donor list as I had to get tissue typed for my sister. It turned out one of my brothers was a closer match for her but they kept me on the list.

My sister was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was pregnant with her second kid, who is now in the 6th form and my sister is still alive and kicking with no further setbacks since the transplant (well unless you count being fat, ugly and ginger - believe me, you do NOT want pics!) so hopefully the little lad will havea similar success. Good luck with that.

my best mate in the world ended up with acute myloid lukemia about 3 years ago. he went from a healthy 12ish stone lad down to about 6stone, bald, pukey, weak as fuck, totally nackered specimen of a bloke..
I went to visit him and I thought it would be the last time I saw him alive,
but they flew his sister from the USA and harvested her bone marrow and have used it til now,. and last month he finally got his all clear from the cancer unit, and apart from monthly blood tests and check-ups, he is back to the lad I grew up with. the people he has had working on him over the last few years deserve all the credit in the world. If I had the chance I would divert all the cash we spend on useless/undeserving/ scrounging/ thieving benefit piss-takers and scammers into cancer research.... we are so close to killing this monster that we can do it if we go for the final push and throw a big wedge of cash at it. Lets hope it happens in our lifetime.

Tell the little fella that we're all praying for him.

I worked with a guy who was a match for a kid in Argentina, but the day before he was to have his bit done he got a call saying it was postponed. When he asked why he was told they weren't allowed to say officially but the likelihood was that the kid had passed away. So near ....

I was blessed in so far as I was able to donate marrow for both of my children

I was a 50% "mismatch" to treat a condition similar to leukemia

The graft was succesful on both occasions and I have a wonderful son (21) and daughter (14) as a result

PM me if you wish - May God Bless you and yours
