Ha'way let's get this thread up to & past the 500 post barrier

Did anybody on here used to get in The Red Lion, along "The Avenue" & partake in Billy Button's (R.I.P Billy) pre match quiz ? (I used to love the way he referred to Newcastle and Boro, as "The Scum & The other Scum" when asking questions about said, twats )

And was anybody ever scammed by Sammy "The Chin, aka "King of The Fulwell" Smith's football cards . . . and more importantly, did anybody ever win one of his cards ?

He actually once told me and my mates who used to get in there each matchday, that it was our turn to win the card, before he took it round the pub, and lo & behold - we won !

    Great thread lads.

Never really went to that many away games until the 90's, but the one that stands out for me is this one.

Me and 5 mates went to Forest in the 90/91 season (I think), on a coach with a load of Ryhope lads. On the way down, the drink flowed, the dodgy cigarettes came out, and we had a great time. As we got near to Nottingham, the coppers were stopping all the coaches - by this time, you couldn't see from one end of the coach to the other for smoke. A copper gets on, sniffs, screws his face up and laughs "fuckin hell lads, you've had a good time on here"....and lets us go on.

The 6 of us though, had decided to go in bad taste (kipper ties, anoraks etc), but due to work not giving me the time off work till the last minute, it wasn't till I got down there that I found out my mate couldn't get me a ticket next to them in the seats...so there I was stood on my Jack Jones looking class in my brown anorak, pink big collared shirt, beige kipper tie, flares and elton john boots. but I was that stoned/pissed, I couldn't give a fuck

We stopped off in Doncaster on the way back, and had a drink in a few of the bars. We walked into one and just stopped. It was full of Hells Angels. My mate sheepishly went to the bar, while we were trying to hide In the ebnd, we had a great night with them, really good set of lads - pissed themselves over the bad taste gear (probably saved us)

He was a well known bloke at Shrewsbury, sadly passed away years ago.

There must be loads of us who used to travel away for years - probably all know each other by face but not name.

I wish I had a pound for everytime the late Billy Simmons barred me from coach 1 supporters club and then booked me in for the next game from Washington -

R.I.P. Billy lad. - i bet he could have told us all some stories from the 60/70/80s saying that he probably attended every single game.
Also remember at Shrewsbury how you walked up the terracing to the back gates and the coaches were parked there.

I reckon so many people on here do know each other as you say.....we got the away coach at chester-le-st motorway sliproad........i remember sitting in the aisle to a few away games..... Bristol Rovers being one

Remember playing Man United at Roker Park in the 74/75 season, second division. Man United had been relegated the season before. someone mentioned the first game where 60k turned up and we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. At RP Alex Stepney had a blinder if I remember. 0 v 0.

45k turned up. Hell of an afternoon.

Trent Coaches. Forest used to use them when coming to Roker. Went back with a few windows missing when they were parked along the road near to The Wolsey.
