I don't wear it in a ponytail for the "look" of it.

I wear it in a pomnytail to keep it out of the way while it's "not needed", and let it flow freely if I'm in a pub, or doing a gig or watching a band.

Long hair gets in the way when you eat, or when you're walking around outside if it's windy. If you don't put it in a ponytail you end up weather-beaten and with food in your hair. Nobody wants that, nobody!
