Can you be specific mate - what are you trying to do? A 'retail' dvd to avi? In which case AGK (auto gordian knot) is free but a bit hmmmm. On the other hand, if you have a full Nero installation try Nero recode (not free)

Na just some vids that were taken at work. Nowt dodgy. They are in VOB format and I need them in either AVi or MP4 to upload onto the work website.

Any help appreciated.

I looked into this (specifically for converting the H264 formats) and found meGUI recommended (and free). Pretty easy to get to grips with (need an AVI synth script to feed into it but it even has a tool to do that for you) and quality results. Haven't used it for about a year so there may be better out there now.

For wee things like that I would try erightsoft 'super'. It will encode owt to owt - for nowt. The download page is a bit of a chore, make sure you are getting 'it' and not something sponsored.
