    Default Buying your first car

Going to have a budget of around £1000 which could be increased slightly but not too much. Now I know the obvious things I should be considering like:

    Insurance
    MOT
    Mileage
    Age

Is there anything I should be looking at as well as this? My mate basically said you cant go wrong with a corsa

if your budget is £1000 you wont get anything, insurance alone would take you over £1000. I'm assuming you're 17-19

    Yaris.

Cheap to run and Toyota's are good cars.

the £1k end of the market is a lottery mate. dont stress about getting a particular make or model, the most important thing is that the car itself is reasonably straight.

buy from a private owner who has owned the car for at least several years, ideally an elderly person or a woman (probably less likely to rip you off).

mileage / age is pretty irrelevant. try and get something with at least 6 months MOT and a fully stamped service book.

a good trick is to ring up and when enquiring tell them that you are a mechanic and that you will be annoyed if there is anything wrong with the car as you will find it. if the car is straight they will have nothing to hide.

if you end up doing 380 miles per week i would borrow money and buy something relatively new as an old car will potentially give you loads of gip and frequent bills.

Thanks for the advice, i will be getting a brand new car as soon as ive had a runaround for 12-18 months. Im likely to write my first car off so didnt want to go down the brand new route straight away, this will be a short term car.
