Think you have to ask your current provider to release the line for the new one. Get in touch with who you want to switch to and they'll tell you better.

Get in touch with your new provider and set it up. When thats ll sorted then you ring your current provider and tell them that your cancelling it.

Dont fall for the bullshit patter of having to pay xx amount of money to cancel your account because BT tried it on with me, i just said ok send out the bill and they did for £18. Bit of a far cry from the £80 they reckon it would cost me.

Unless he owes them a large outstanding balance i believe they have no option to release it.

I have just switched from Orange (broadband) and BT (phoneline) to Talk Talk.
They done everything, didnt even have to call anyone as I ordered online and they asked online who I was already with.
