Crosshead screws are brilliant. Quick and easy to use and no slippage risk unlike slotted screws. They also work well with power screwdrivers/drills. They are only really problematic when the wrong size or type of driver is used. If you use the wrong size, or mix pozi drive and phillips, the screws and possibly the screwdriver can be damaged.
Use the right tool and they are fantastic. There's a good reason crosshead screws vastly outnumber slotted screws these days - they're just better.
