Best Route to SoL from Edinburgh?

A group of us will be coming down from Edinburgh for the match on 2 May. Unfortunately, we need to return that evening so we'll be making our way down by car. Since I'm not a local, I thought I'd turn to all of you for any recommendations on the best way to go.

When I put the route on Google maps, it told me the quickest route was to pretty much take the A697 or A1 the whole way.

Since we're staying on the west edge of Edinburgh and we're right off the M8, another option I considered was going M8 to M74 to A69. While longer, I thought this might be a good option since the motorway will travel faster and have less potential traffic problems.

Anyone travel this regularly and have a recommendation?

A697 tends to be quickest.

Use the A1 mate , the 697 is like a farm track in comparison and you would be losing out on some nice 'slightly over the speed limit' dual carriageway cruising. A720 Edinburgh Bypass , A1 , A19 for me like.

Seriously marra, best option is get the train down.

Straight into Central Station and then hop onto Metro to Stadium of Light.

Trains back on the 2nd are fine and you can catch the 19:55 back up to Edinburgh.

Round trip approx 21 quid per skull.

Much more relaxing and it means everyone can have a few beers.

A697- can be bad however by far the quickest way
A1/A19- be sure to take tunnel fair of £1.20 each way (No change given)
A1231 follow for the SOL- and then find a good spot to park (by the queen alex bridge there an industrial park off the roundabout if you don't mind walking to for bout 5min to the ground that also goodplace for quick get away)

I refuse to believe this. i tested all the routes out when I lived in Newcastle. If you know where the speed cameras are and you're not going at rush hour, then the A1 is the best in my opinion.

Definately the train, and if you get bad traffic it probably wont take much more time. And the HUGE advantage of a couple of beers
