He should get a Mac, then he won't have a problem

Out the free ones, I am sure Avast, AVG and even Microsoft Security Essentials are much of a muchness and all have their own fans.

Avast was my weapon of choice until it got hijacked by the "Windows Total Security" virus.

Avast and MWB couldn't touch it. MSE wiped it out immediately. MSE is anti virus and malware (i.e. includes windows defender), and updates with the standard windows update tool - so its dead easy to use.

AVAST for me , daily updates , nice and light

Found AVG a bit heavy and essentials i had a problem with, but like Rog says we all have our faves. Antivir is canny as well.

I still use Comodo security suite, it has it's detractors but I've never had a peck of bother with it.

Ubuntu Linux on me lappy, but I've got some Windows 7 VMs and a Windows Server 2008 box. But I've always found that you're at no risk of viruses if you're sensible - logon as a normal user account (not administrator), don't install software from dodgy sources, don't use IE, keep Windows updates up to date, don't stick untrusted USB sticks in. It's that simple!

Probably one of the best ways of avoiding viruses/trojans but how many of us follow that advice?

Norton 360 is pretty good......they have upped their game from being crap a couple of years ago, and are now worth having...
