Dubia / Maldives recommendations
Anyone recommend the best area to stay in dubia / places to stay away from. Looking to just have a couple of days there on way to maldives. Dont want anything too fancy as will be out site seeing for most of the time we'll be there.
Also any resort recommendations @ Maldives , this one seems probably favourite ATM

Thanks in advance

Best hotel I have stayed at in Dubai was the Jumeirah Beach hotel. It has superb views of The Burj Al Arab and the customer service is fantastic.
Think a few other posters on here have recommended this in the past.
Other hotels I have visited but not actually stopped in are Mina A Salam, The One and Only Royal Mirage and The Grosvenor, all of these looked class as well.
Don't think you can get a bad hotel in the Jumeirah beach area to be fair.
My parents have pretty much been to most of the so called top resorts and for the last three years have gone to the Maldives. They used to swear by Tailand and Dubai but now they just want to keep going back to Maldives.

cheers for that, the JB hotel is a bit pricey for what we were after (just a base to get around really), but looks pretty awesome.

Re: Dubia / Maldives recommendations
Went to an island called Biyadoo in then Maldives. Its was probably the cheapest island available but it was amazing - www.markstravel.co.uk usually have good deals there...
We stayed in the old town in Dubai, which was nice and had a bit more character. But if you want to see the sites J-Beach is possibly the best location. Also avoid the holy month 'Ramadan' everything closes! we made that mistake and had to wait until 7:30 each night for a drink!

Re: Dubia / Maldives recommendations
Aye JBR is nice like, but not the sort of place you'd go just to use as a base.
Location doesn't really come into it in Dubai to be honest. Not many placese are in walking distance and most ventures are a taxi ride - which are cheap as chips. We tend to use booking.com when we're heading up there for the night.
Must see's while your here;
Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall one one day - shopping, good food, worlds tallest building
JBR - nice walking about the souks, great views of the Burj Al-arab, maybe some time at Atlantis (waterpark)

cheers for the advice. take your point about location, didnt know whether the benefit of being around JB would outweigh potential savings in getting a cheaper hotel closer to the airport / creek.

Re: Dubia / Maldives recommendations
Not been to Dubai. Looked at it a few times but it always seems a bit too trashy, footballers wives type thing (not saying cheap, just, well, you know)
Could be wrong but there you go, you're only going to have to be there for a few days anyway.
If your budget can take it I can heartily recommend the Banyan Tree resort in the Maldives which is outstanding. I've been to a couple of Banyan Tree resorts now and they never disappoint.
A very fine but cheaper option is Meerufenfushi (Meeru Island Resort now I think) which my wife and I went to a few years before the tsunami.
We went all inclusive and thought it was great. Good beach bungalows, good buffet and really good for watersports without having to break the bank.
Not seen any recent reviews but I think they plowed ton of money into it after the tsunami so worth checking out.

Will do
The cheapest way to get to the Maldives seems to be via dubai so it works out as a decent way of getting in a 2 centre holiday. Everyone ive spoken to who has been really enjoyed it. For the cost of a hotel for 3 nights seems like a waste not to.
