Today marks the 27th anniversary of the Bradford fire, one of the worst-ever disasters at a football stadium.

Fire swept through the Main Stand at Valley Parade during the game between Bradford City and Lincoln City on Saturday 11th May 1985.

A total of 56 supporters lost their lives in the fire, which started under the stand and quickly swept through the entire structure.

Flags at the Stadium and Academy of Light are flying at half mast today as a mark of respect.

The Popplewell Inquiry, which introduced new safety legislation, was held in the wake of the disaster.

The annual service of remembrance will take place in Bradford today, including a minutes' silence for those who died.

Good touch from the club, quiet dignity.

Back in the early nineties when I was at the RN fireschool doing training, they showed the unedited coverage to bring home the seriousness of an uncontrolled fire, one of the most horrible things I've ever seen.

About 30 matlows watching it and when the film finished you could have heard a pin drop. No-one could speak.

Don Goodman was playing for Bradford that day.
