I think that it's only the Brazilians and the Spanish who can pass and pass it on like that. I love the way that everyone is prepared to take the ball, regardless of who is close by.

... But our lot didn't want for technical ability, as such, nor youth. They just didn't play as a team, for some reason.

Watch the body shape they've got when they take a pass. Unless there's space for them to move forward into it's rare you see them faceing forward. They'll always face the direction they're about to lay the ball off to. No pissing about having to turn and look and work out a pass, they're already aware of where there's space and where there's support.

Thing is though, you can watch a premier league match and if the defence string together 7 passes, you start to hear murmors of discontent.

One of the big differences you see with South American teams, and English players is at centre half. Our lot like to lump the ball forward, or dump it off to the fullbacks. If you have a centre half who can pass the ball and bring it forward into space then you can build from the back.

Then you have the likes of Chile and Paraguay who have more technical ability than our lot
