    Default Here we go (landlords)

I'm moving to Northampton this Friday so been sorting this and that out and my current landlord called today. He asked if I was going to pay rent up to the 14th of this month and I remarked that Friday is the 10th I don't have a problem paying him up to the date I leave but after that? I don't think so, it gets better.

I don't have a pot to piss in as i'm on benefits so the money I have is for my new address (rent in advance plus admin fee) He then said I should stay here and delay moving to my new home and give him £500 and get my brother, who moved out over a month ago to pay half to help with this....I found myself saying "yes" a lot as he bombarded me with words..

After I put the phone down I had to take a moment to take it all in, he speaks very quickly. He also informed me that he did not receive the deposit we paid some 4 years ago (£1500) as part of the deal when he bought my house about two years ago from the seller (Midland Heart) I was thinking I will have a hard time getting some of the deposit back, now he claims to never have received it.

I've got in touch with the original landlords Midland Heart and the agency that we (my brother) and I paid the money to in December 2006 as they will have records of the transaction when we moved in. I also have the original tenancy agreement but not to hand so not sure whether the receipt was attached.

In effect, he wants me to delay moving so he can continue getting money for this place till someone else moves in! I told him I would be moving 1st week in September last month I'm just wondering wtf this guy is on

If I get the gist of this, I'd say that I'm not happy paying someone for a time that you're not residing in his property.

People speak quickly when they are trying to pull a fast one on you.Normally its, say a month from when you first gave notice(not sure if it has to be in writing).
If you have paid your deposit then you must be able to get that.Surely if a new landlord took over,it's up to them to include it in the deal when they took over.Stick to your guns and hassle him for the money, the same way he is hassling you to stop longer

He doesn't have the deposit mate so I have him over a barrel as it's him that wants money from me, he has nothing I want as he doesn't have the deposit, he says

It's gonna be a right fuck on sorting this out.
