Default International level a step up?

Is it fuck! Its not even to the standard of club football in most instances. Just the difference is that England are selected by the media and if you dont score within 2 appearances you are judged as not able to make the step up. When really given a run in the team the quality would shine.

If international level really was a step up, then why dont we buy the Japanese back 4?

If you had to pick your best back 4 and goalie from these teams, it wouldnt be all English.

England is - and has increasingly been over the last 25 years - a shop that is "closed" for the benefit of those who play for "the top four" and who become media darlings as a result. The reason Bent hasn't pulled up any trees in an England shirt is that 8-9 places are already automatically filled by the usual bodies I refer to above. They haven't shown themselves capable of giving him the quality of service that non-English players at Sunderland give him. It's a re-run of what happened to Phillips.
