Default The history of football-Manchester United

Just catching up on it on Sky+. Newton Heath of Manchester were a football club from the east side of Manchester just a stone throw from Eastlands. They would have been known as Manchester Football Club had the local rugby club not been known as the same name MFC. In 1902 a meeting between the FA and the Rugby union had a meeting. A few days earlier according to historians suggested adding United. In 1910 they moved to OT and struggled to get decent crowds because of distance until after the war. So don't believe anything you hear from idiots that Manchester United are not from Manchester because they very much are. Fascinating stuff.

And now they get decent crowds despite the distance from the ground of the domicile of their supporters

    Funny how things change

Just listening to Steve Fleet who played for City in the 50s talk about his best mate Eddie Colman who died in the Munich air disaster. He had to tell his dad that Eddie was dead. I've said since I grew up many years ago that I'm ashamed that I ever sang about Munich to the United fans. Just a shame the Skauser's haven't quite a cottoned yet.

From what I've picked up over the years from their forums etc they don't lower themselves that far. They sing about their club from what I have experienced.

Well I was sort of taking the piss out of the old adage that Man Utd supporters come from Sussex but yeah, we'll go along with your comment

    "You killed your own fans
    You Killed your own fans
    One day at Hillsborough
    You killed your own fans"
