Fujiyama restaurant, Newcastle.
Has anyone been here? I've never had Japanese food before and was wondering what to expect. I've heard the chefs are crazy.
We're booked in for an Early Bird Special on Sunday, does anyone know what this entails?
Cheers.

Not been but it looks like its a teppanyaki restaurant - food cooked in front of you on a big metal grill/fryer type thing. Supposed to be fun, no idea about the food - the Japanese places I've been to have always done noodle/sushi dishes primarily.

Is it a Teppanyaki? If so they are class. The entertainment type ones arent much fun if in a couple though and better for big groups where you have the entire area.
Basically to the OP they cook in front of you - usually beansprouts/some veg followed by whatever you choose which is usually steak, fish or prawns.

When I was there the chefs cooking in front of me were hoying eggs in the air and catching them in their hat. They then gave everyone on the table a go. So to avoid looking foolish, get a chefs hat and start practicing.
