    can you use a wired ethernet connection or does it have to be a router?

    U can use either the ethernet cable or use it wirelessly

    i would recomend wired as its easier (not many people will pay for a huge ethernet cable), wireless is still easy but sometimes it can knock the connection out.

    Routers aint that expensive anymore, they come in handy to connect wirelessly on mobiles and laptops too

    tbh u can read your manual and its all answered in there.

    there wouldn't be anything in the pc though. i mean instead of connecting the net to the pc could i not just connect it to the ps3?

    it seems to set up okay but cant automatically find an ip address.
