But he made his 'confession' to Bill Turnbull on BBC Breakfast and then the police decided to investigate; it's not like he wandered into a police station and admitted to killing a man. You can't waste police time if they decide to launch a full scale inquiry off their own backs, can you?

He admitted to a murder on live radio. Hang on say the police, he didn't come in and tell us so we won't bother to investigate it.

Last I heard not many murderers have walked into their local nick to voluntarily admit to doing it.

I read it as there being evidence that the bloke was not murdered so therefore his story was a load of attention seeking bullshit.
I imagine a post mortem would show if someone had been smothered.
I'm sure the facts will become clear in the trial.
