Re: jacky whites market
Jacky and Joan White were local traders who instead of travelling to various markets, decided they would set up there own small market in the centre of Sunderland in 1947. Originally there were just 6 stalls which gradually increased to the 37 different businesses currently located there.
Jacky died in 1962 after being hit by a tram in Fawcett Street. Joan continued to run her own stall before eventually retiring to Australia in 1974 where her son Jacky Jnr lived. Joan passed away in 1989 after several years of ill health thought to have been brought on by the climate down under.Just mad it up like!
