Default Have you ever been caught up in serious trouble abroad?

Following on from the Greedminds in Bahrain thread, have you?

Mr P and I were caught up in the Madeira floods a year ago, which was a little hairy.

Anyone else got any stories about being caught up in large-scale bother?

I went from nepal to India but there was loads od=f civil unrest and people were setting themselves on fire in the street. (Saw that on the news)

Our train came into the station with loads of armed guards, so we fucked off back to Nepal and flew to Thailand.

I need to go back to India to see what I missed.

I duuno if here counts as "abroad" any more as I live here, but when the G8 met in Evian I enjoyed three sleepless nights as 'anarchists' battled specially drafted in German riot police directly outside my apartment. The last night was the best as they managed to set the tarmac alight and I was left wondering how the hell I was meant to leave the building if the flames reached us.

I received absolutely no sympathy from work as I turned up more and more sleep-deprived each day.
