Default Another Labour "think tank policy" not thought out...

They will do or say anything to curry favour with the public these days without giving the implications a second thought.

Apparently they are looking at the Danish model of childcare where the most parents can pay is 25% of childcare costs. The percentage of women working in the Danish economy is far higher than here apparently.

Two simple points from me....1) Who will pay the other 75% of childcare costs....and 2) Where are the jobs for these women.

    1. Tax and NI. It costs more to have women who want to work out of work through lack of childcare than it would to fully fund childcare, never mind 75%.
    2. You only pay for childcare for those in work who need it. Obviously.

So....you wan't me (the taxpayer) to subsidise my next door neighbours childcare (2 kids) so that they can further improve their lifestyle over mine. I'm already subsidising the beer of fellas that inhabit The Derry, Sinatras, Yates' etc while i'm at work.

The whole idea is to get MORE women into work......like i said, where are the jobs.

So they do better than you already despite having nursery fees for 2 kids? That's about 1k
    / month. Jealousy's a terrible thing ;)
Having capable workers sat on their arses due to childcare costs means the economy takes a big hit. Saying there's no jobs for them is the same logic as saying unemployment wouldn't exist if women stayed at home. Parents who work stimulate the economy.

As far as i'm concerned people can have as many kids as they want as long as they can pay for them. My kid was looked after by her parents and grandparents at no cost to the state (ie me and other taxpayers). Just explain to me why i should contribute towards this £750/month for my neighbours kids so that, in effect, they get a large tax break at my expense.

funding would need to be changed but according to the radio today we already spend 3.6% of GDP on child care, Denmark spend 3.7%

They can all work looking after other people's kids, makes perfect sense to me.

I heard those figures too but can't see how they can be reconciled if they cap child care costs at 25%.
