    Question sun room or conservatory

what is the differance between a sun room and conservatory?

and what would the price differance be?

do you need planning permission for a sun room?

Sun room has brick walls and glass roof, conservatory is glass walls , dont think they are classed as a permanent structure.

We are having a sunroom built

It has to go through building regs where as a conservatory doesn't, something like the walls have to be 50% Perspex and the roof has to be 70% to be exempt from the regs

Wish we hadn't fucking bothered now, has to be on a raft which a structural engineer had to design/ rip us off

Don't bother with a conservatory, freezing in winter, red hot in summer. Spend the extra and get a proper extension or sunroom.

My sun room's bloody lovely when it's sunny (duh), and well insulated enough to sit in when it's cold as well.

Not sure how those all glass conservatories get on.

What do you mean by raft and why did it have to be on one? Is this one of them load bearing things to prevent damage to the drains?

    Raft foundation

The house is on one so this needs to be on one

It's to do with the water table where we are

Couldn't be arsed with all the plastic, I think it looks crap

You didn't get sun tubes in by any chance, we are looking at getting a couple in?

Old house or relatively new build? Whats the measurements? Planning permission doesnt depend on materials, only size. In any case alwys check with the Council as there may be specific restrictions on your property.

We build our conservatories to look like garden rooms if the customers do require. Brick pillars and a glass roof transform your average conservatory into a lovely garden room. If you use the right glazing and insulate the floor and walls there's absolutely no reason you can't use the room 12 months of the year
