    Default Tax Credits Help Please

    Hi all,

Since being made redundant at the being of August we have been trying to sort out our tax credits claim. Originally they were basing it on our income for the tax year to April 2010. We informed them that my income wasn't that anymore due to not having a job and were told to wait for the notification then ring them with the new income.

Did that and was told it would be backdated to 1st August. Got the final notification today and rang them to explain it as it didnt really make sense. The say we have a "potential payment" of over £600 which they are keeping in case our income changes before April 2011.

when i asked why i cant have this money now as things had been bloody hard since August waiting for them to sort it out I was told that they wouldn't give us it to prevent overpayments if my income went up.

Asked if there was anyone else i could talk to about and was told there is no one i can talk to at Tax Credits about it and that is the final decision.

    Anyone else heard of this?

After I stopped claiming Tax Credits after my circumstances changed - I received my final money due - exactly 1 year after I stopped claiming.

This was explained clearly to me though - a safeguard incase my circumstances changed again during that tax-year.

How is that right? They had my correct income, just chose to use last years tax figures
